About Byers, Colorado

Byers is located on the I-70 corrider, approximately 30 miles east of Aurora and 40 miles east of Denver. Its proximity to the metropolitan area allows for small town country living with easy access to city amenities.

Byers is a small, unincorporated rural community of approximately 1,400 people. The community has a nice mixture of young and old with an active senior citizens club. Farming and ranching are the backbone of Byers' economy. In the 1970's and 1980's, oil and gas exploration contributed to a more diversified economy. With restaurants, gas stations, a grocery store, liquor store, feed and clothing store, tanning salon, bank, hardware store, veterinary clinic, beauty shops, nail salon, parts and repair shop and numerous other small businesses, Byers is a self-sufficient community with much to offer. There are single-family homes, trailer parks and a few apartments as well as 2-1/2 acre lots where one can own large and small farm animals. Additionally, the water in Byers is some of the purest anywhere and local telephone services extend into the metro Denver area.
Schools
The fully-accredited Byers School district offers preschool, kindergarten, elementary, junior high and high school courses. College courses are also offered in Byers and at nearby high schools with access to T.H. Pickens Technical School in Aurora. Approximately 578 students attend grades K – 12. A public library is located next to the school for the convenience of students and the general public.

Community Groups & Events

Community celebrations are held at Easter, the Fourth of July, Halloween and Christmas, and the Byers Turkey Shoot takes place the second week-end prior to Thanksgiving. Bingo is held every Monday at the Byers American Legion Hall.

The Byers community also has a number of active community groups including the Alton-Franz American Legion & Auxiliary Post 160, the Byers Volunteer Fire Department, the Byers Volunteer Rescue Squad, the Byers Community Cemetery Association, the Byers Development Council, the Byers Mason Lodge 152, the Parent Teacher Organization and the Byers Community Association.
